Well we can start with that drink, [ Dorian points out. ] Then we can talk about how I got tossed between hell dimensions like a hackey sack, saw my dead lover, absolutely fucked up with regards to John Seed, and still kind of want to throttle Jon's inmate.
Funnily enough, the 'absolutely fucked up with regards to John Seed' point involves throttling, [ Dorian sighs. He takes the bottle of whiskey and just takes a drink straight from it, no glass, no pouring, just whiskey from the bottle directly in the mouth. ]
But he turned into a rotting corpse with quite a lot of maggots before I could actually do the deed to get demoted. [ He sighs before adding, ] Though I wonder if it would have been better if I did.
[He walks over to the couch and sits down, gesturing for Dorian to join him.]
I will not tell you what you should or should not have done. The question becomes what will you do from here to ensure that it doesn't happen here? Where we are ourselves.
[ Dorian happily goes to sit next to Godric, snuggling up to the man all the while. ]
What I'll do is not let him bait me. What's the worst that can happen, he kills me? He tortures me because I'm not playing his stupid little games? I'm bloody immortal. I'll revive soon enough.
[ that being said, he would really like to not be tortured. ]
"Going to be blunt here, I would also appreciate not being killed or tortured, especially since I doubt we're going to be landing on the planet of designer brands any time soon." He snuggles further into Godric's personal space before continuing to bitch,
Godric wraps an arm around him, pulling him close. He likes the touch. He likes feeling his warmth.
"I don't know where we will land, but no. You may not be able to get your designer shoes at our next port, but I do look forward to them. Most of the time."
"With our powers combined, maybe we can badger the Admiral to let me get my designer shoes at the next next port," Dorian teases. "I need to take Trixie shopping anyway. She deserves something nice to wear."
"I really like her," he admits, with a grin. "She's brash and strong—I doubt she'll let anyone give her grief. But she's had a hard life. Part of me wants to help show her that there are still some good things left in the world."
Granted, Dorian's plan is mostly 'material possessions and spa days.' But he's sure he'll think of other things as well.
Godric can't help the smile at Dorian's words. "Good," he tells him. "Sometimes it isn't about morality and redemption. Sometimes, it's about showing another person that they deserve to be cared for and loved."
"It wouldn't surprise me if there's more here who need that care and love than who need the morality and redemption in the first place," Dorian idly muses. "For every out and out psychopath, there seem to be three broken souls."
Dancy needs that and Godric - tries his hardest to make sure that happens. For her. And for him.
"I think that it is so easy to be complacent," he admits. "And to think that your life cannot change. And to wonder why it cannot change but not know what to do. And here? Here they can find change."
Dorian nods. At least in this regard, he's buying what Godric's selling.
"Sometimes you need something drastic to shake you out of your routine. Granted, I don't think many people were picturing 'dying and going to a prison barge' levels of drastic, but whatever works, works."
Godric trails his fingers along Dorian's arm. "There was a church. They called themselves the Fellowship of the Sun, and they hated us. Felt as if we were abominations before God." He leans into him. "I did not want them to harm any of the vampires in my territory, so I offered myself to them. And so for weeks, they kept me in the basement." They felt as if they had him locked up, but only because Godric wanted it.
"And I'm sure that though they thought you were abominations, they were perfectly welcoming of the addicts, the poor, the unwed mothers, and the prostitutes, all those people who Jesus himself hung out with," Dorian responds, sarcasm dripping from his voice. He does not have many positive feelings about organized religion.
"They were - no. They had their own ideas about things, but they did try, in their minds, to be good." He smiles.
"And I walked out. My underlings sent someone to save me, as they thought I was being held against my will. A human. One of the guards thought it appropriate to pin her to the floor, so I walked out of my little cell and stopped him. It all, as they say, went downhill from there."

Christ, the past few days have been rough.

[He smiles sadly as he steps inside. Annie is still in the infirmary and he doesn't want to hover over her the entire time.]

[He walks to the kitchen and pulls out a bottle of very good whisky and pours it for him. He's been saving a bottle for him, or anyone who needs it.
He holds it out to Dorian.]
Least of all an inmate.

I don't know if demotions would apply to those places. Would that not simply be self defense?

"I would very much appreciate you not being killed or tortured, Dorian. Do not let him bait you and hopefully we can avoid that altogether."

Yeah there are some bad apples, but you don't let the bad apples guard the vampire! That's simple logic!
