If I had to choose between the two, I'd say that it's definitely more the former than the latter.

Honestly, I don't think Sephiroth would do that sort of revenge, retaliation, 'fuck you' whatever against me? What we have is weird, but I don't think it's dismembering because I hate you levels of weird.

To be totally honest, I don't think he would either.

But, you know, there was a dismemberment so I had to do the responsible warden thing and double-check.
